Yashoda was the wife of Nanda and the foster mother of Krishna. She was a devoted and loving mother who cared for Krishna as her own child. Yashoda played a pivotal role in the life of Krishna as she was the one who raised him and nurtured him during his formative years in Brindavan. Yashoda is known for her devotion and unconditional love for Krishna, which is exemplified in many stories from his childhood.

One of the most well-known stories involving Yashoda and Krishna is the incident where Krishna stole butter from Yashoda’s kitchen. Krishna was known for his love of butter, and he would often sneak into the kitchens of the villagers to steal butter. One day, Yashoda caught him in the act and chased him down. However, when she caught him, she was unable to punish him as she was overwhelmed by his divine beauty and love.

Yashoda’s love for Krishna is also reflected in the story of her tying him to a mortar. One day, while playing with his friends, Krishna became mischievous and broke a pot of curd. To punish him, Yashoda tied him to a mortar. However, Krishna’s divine powers made the mortar too small for him, and he dragged it around, pulling down two trees in the process. Yashoda was once again overwhelmed by Krishna’s divine beauty and realized that he was not an ordinary child.

In another famous incident from Hindu mythology, Yashoda once scolded Krishna for eating mud. Krishna denied it, so Yashoda asked him to open his mouth and show her. To her amazement, she saw not only mud but also numerous stars and galaxies. Moreover, she also saw Krishna’s virat roop, the cosmic form that he later showed to Arjuna. Yashoda thus became the first human to witness the virat roop.

However, looking at the overwhelming sight, Yashoda was confused and mind-boggled. So, Krishna used his maya, or illusionary power, to talk to Yashoda’s soul and remind her of their previous birth when they had asked Lord Vishnu to become their son. He then used his maya again to make Yashoda forget what she had seen and return to experiencing pure motherly love.

This incident highlights the close and special bond between Yashoda and Krishna. Despite not being his biological mother, Yashoda is considered the best mother-figure in all Puranic stories. Her pure love and devotion towards Krishna were unparalleled, and her ability to witness the virat roop was a testament to their deep connection.

After Krishna left Brindavan and moved to Mathura, he did not meet Yashoda again. This was because Krishna’s purpose on Earth was to fight evil and establish dharma. He had to leave his childhood behind and fulfill his divine mission. Krishna’s teachings in the Bhagavad Gita emphasize the importance of fulfilling one’s dharma and fulfilling one’s purpose in life.

Although Krishna did not meet Yashoda after leaving Brindavan, his love and devotion for her remained. Yashoda was an important figure in his life, and he often spoke about her with affection. In fact, in the Bhagavata Purana, Krishna tells his disciple Uddhava that the love of a mother for her child is the purest form of love and devotion.

In conclusion, Yashoda was an important figure in Krishna’s story, and her love and devotion for him is a testament to the power of a mother’s love. Although Krishna did not meet Yashoda after leaving Brindavan, her significance in his life is reflected in his teachings and in the affection he held for her. Krishna’s story continues to inspire and captivate people around the world, and the love between Yashoda and Krishna is one of the most endearing aspects of his story.
